BC Trails Day is on June 4, and we hope you can get out on foot, bicycle, wheelchair, or horse and celebrate Gabriola’s incredible network of public trails. Whether you have 20 minutes or a full day, there’s a trail, route, or loop that will meet your needs.
An important part of GaLTT’s mission is promoting, developing, and maintaining a network of trails, boardwalks, and benches that provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to access and explore island ecosystems, parks, shore accesses, neighbourhoods, and services. We believe that public support for GaLTT’s conservation work will be enhanced when people are able to connect with the natural environment.
Most of Gabriola’s trails are on public land but many of the key connections to parks and neighbourhoods would not be possible without the generosity of the 20 private landholders who have voluntarily signed trail licences with GaLTT. On BC Trails Day, let’s express our sincere thanks to those community minded Gabriolans who allow public access across their properties! Here’s a video we created last year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of GaLTT trail licences.
And don’t forget to take GaLTT’s great trail map with you. You can buy it (only $5!) at our table at the Farmers’ Market, or at North Road Sports & Clothing, Mid-Island Co-op, Page’s Resort Group, Gabriola Museum, and the Gabriola Visitor Centre.
Happy BC Trails Day!
