This year GaLTT’s annual End to End walk is set for Sunday, September 11.

Why join us?

GaLTT looks beyond trails in parks—we have long aimed to connect every part of our island with a network of public and private (accessed with permission) trails, and although it’s still necessary to do a bit of quiet country road walking, our annual end to end hike shows how close we’ve come to achieving that goal. The route offers a great way to get a sense of the varied island landscapes that we are trying to protect. It’s also an opportunity to have fun, challenge yourself, and share that experience with others.

We take it easy and there’s always a midday picnic. But if you’re not up for the whole walk (approximately 17 km), you can choose to walk just a section.

The details

Meet at Descanso Campground on Taylor Bay road before 10 am—that’s when we leave. Expect the hike to take 6ish hours: wear comfortable shoes and bring a picnic lunch, water, and cash for the Gertie shuttle back to your car. We’ll finish up at Page’s Resort and Marina at the end of Coast Road, where you can buy a drink or ice cream at the marina store and revel in the satisfaction of having walked the length of our island home.

Schedule (approximate, note that if it is raining rest stops may be shorter):

  • 10:00 am: depart Descanso Campground
  • 12:00: join the walk at the end of Jeanette. If it is not raining our picnic lunch will run from 11:45 to 12:15.
  • 2:15 pm: join the walk at the rest stop at the end of Dorby (Nelder’s Pond). Note that if it is raining there may not be much of a rest stop here.
  • 3:45 pm (approximately): Arrive Page’s Marina

Gertie will be available from 4 to 6 to shuttle people to their cars or will drop off along North and South road. BRING CASH FOR GERTIE!

We walk rain or shine! Email programs@galtt.ca with questions.
