GaLTT was saddened to note the passing of former Director Heather Kay on April 19th 2023. Heather served on our Board for 4 years, from 2014 to 2018. Early on she took responsibility for memberships, and she served on the Strategic Planning Committee in the fall of 2014 when the Board worked with Dyan Dunsmoor-Farley to develop the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan that would direct our work for the next few years. She became Treasurer at the 2016 AGM when Josh Taylor left and continued in that role until the 2018 AGM.
Heather came to us so warm and enthusiastic about Gabriola’s parks and trails and about GaLTT’s potential role in the acquisition and managing of them. She was a great asset at the Farmers Market table. She loved her dogs and was a keen walker. She was a former horse rider and so had an appreciation for sharing trails with other users. She was the best thing about being a volunteer Board member—meeting like minded wonderful people who become friends.
Past President Anne Landry summed up Heather well: “My memories of Heather as a board member are of someone who always had a smile on her face and was willing to take on tasks that needed doing. She was a lovely person.”
