As a non-profit organization in BC, GaLTT is governed by the regulations of PIPA (Privacy Information Protection Act). GaLTT is committed to maintaining the privacy of our members and others who interact with us, and complies with PIPA requirements.

Our website and all its data is hosted on Canadian servers subject to Canadian privacy laws and regulations. Our host encrypts server-browser connections and scans for vulnerabilities and to detect and remove cyber threats such as malware or viruses.

What personal information we collect

“Personal Information” means information about an identifiable individual, including their name, home address and phone number, email address, age, sex, marital or family status, an identifying number, financial information, educational history, etc.

Information collected on this website falls into two categories:

  • Personal information knowingly disclosed, collected on an individual basis for specific purposes by GaLTT or by third parties providing services to us;
  • Website usage information, collected on an anonymized, aggregate basis.
Information collected by GaLTT through our website

GaLTT collects, uses, and retains personal information only in order to conduct its activities, e.g. to maintain records of membership, communicate with members and others who sign up for such communications, provide membership services, and meet the requirements of our insurer, the BC Societies Act, and/or other laws or regulations.

An example of information collected by GaLTT through its website would be that obtained when someone completes an online membership application form.

Information is not shared with third parties except under specific and limited terms, as described below. GaLTT does not sell or make available any information it collects to any marketing companies.

Information collected by third parties through our website

In certain circumstances information may be collected by third parties through our website. We require all third parties to respect the security of your personal information and act in accordance with the law. The collection of information by third parties is limited to that required for them to carry out their activities for the purposes for which we engage with them.

An example of third-party information sharing would be if you make a donation through Canada Helps, which is a registered Canadian charity that provides fundraising tools for other charities. (See also the Canada Helps privacy policy.)

Website usage information

GaLTT uses website analytic tools to help us understand how visitors use our website. We will never use these statistical analysis tools to track or collect any personally identifiable information about you and we will not associate the information collected with personally identifiable information.

This information is collected through the use of automated “cookies,” small pieces of information that are stored on your computer to communicate between your browser and our website. Cookies “remember” your visits so that when you visit again you don’t have to re-enter information, by passing a cookie from your computer to our website.

Cookies log information such as IP addresses and browser types, and also track things such as the number of times you visit our site and how much time you spend on it. All information provided to us is anonymized. The cookies do not reveal any personal information about you or transfer data from your computer to us. The information collected is used only to analyze usage of our website and improve it.
