Holiday season favourites like holly may be popular in carols and on Christmas cards, but as non-native species they pose a threat to our natural ecosystems. Holly spreads easily via birds that eat the bright berries, will eventually crowd out native plants, and is hard to eradicate. This work party is an opportunity to learn best practices for removing and controlling this plant—come join us!
Meet: on Elgie Road, just off North Road, to tackle holly bushes growing alongside the Elgie-Tait trail.
Bring: gloves and hand pruners, if you can. We will provide hori-hori knives and loppers as needed.
