Sound Artist DinahD guided us on our second silent soundwalk—this time at Gabriola’s Tle:Ltxw village site beside False Narrows, walking about 3.5 kms in 1.5 hrs, geared for wind and tide and equipped for distant viewing.

We reframed our idea of an island walk using this immersive, quiet, sound-learning experience of our island environment. As we moved silently through the environment, we

  • registered everyday and unusual sounds,
  • pondered our role as humans within this place
  • learned how to audio-map our environment
  • documented the adventure with provided books/pencils
  • enjoyed a casual hot chocolate together after the walk to chat about our findings and insights.

We returned home with a broader sense of our environment, a keepsake Soundwalk Journal, and many good memories.
