Kneeling man trimming back salal.

In mid January our wonderful volunteers were on their knees or bending low to carefully excavate (supervised by an archeologist) beside the trails on the Pilot Bay side of Twin Beaches. This was followed by some salal clipping as they prepared to widen and flatten pathways from the parking lots to a shore-side viewpoint, an adapted picnic table, and an accessible outhouse.

These were the first steps in our project to improve overall accessibility to those with physical disabilities in Gabriola Sands Provincial Park. The work, which will include a little concrete-pouring for the enlarged picnic table and outhouse pads, will continue until April, depending on the weather.
