On July 17th GaLTT representatives Anne Landry and Jenni Gehlbach attended a  celebration of life for Jack Schick on Mudge Island at the Dodd Narrows Community Park, where family and friends gathered to celebrate his life, share stories, and raise a glass in his honour.

In 2016, as Chair of the Mudge Island Land Trust Association (MILTA), Jack played a key role in getting the land purchased by RDN for a community park. GaLTT contributed $10,000 towards the land purchase from our Land Acquisition Fund, the first time we used money from this fund. When MILTA intentionally folded a few years later, funds left in the bank account were transferred into GaLTT’s Land Acquisition Fund.

People like Jack, working at the community level, have a real impact on land protection and conservation. It was very fitting that the Celebration of Life happened at the park he helped create.
